Storyline/Plot
A tribute to a bygone era of hand-drawn animation and epic narrative, Zarafa is a lavishly animated and moving adventure that is inspired by the true story of the first giraffe to visit France. It is set against vast CinemaScope panoramas of dry desert, wind-swept mountains, and open skies. A young child named Maki breaks free from his shackles and flees into the desert night under the cover of darkness. Slavers follow Maki into the moonlit savannah, where he encounters the nomad Hassan, Prince of the Desert, and Zarafa, a newborn giraffe who is also an orphan like him. They travel to Alexandria to meet with the Pasha of Egypt, who gives Hassan the order to bring the unique animal to King Charles of France as a present.
