Storyline/Plot
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann created the American post-apocalyptic drama television series The Last of Us for HBO. The show centers on Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler assigned to accompany the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) throughout the post-apocalyptic United States. It is based on the 2013 video game created by Naughty Dog. Merle Dandridge plays resistance commander Marlene, Anna Torv plays Joel’s smuggling partner Tess, and Gabriel Luna plays Joel’s younger brother Tommy.
Filming for The Last of Us, reportedly the biggest television show in Canadian history, took place in Alberta between July 2021 and June 2022. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, the Mighty Mint, and Word Games, it is the first HBO series based on a video game.
Joel, a seasoned survivor, is paid to transport 14-year-old Ellie out of a harsh quarantine area 20 years after modern society has been destroyed. As they both have to travel across the United States and rely on one another for survival, what begins as a menial job quickly turns into a cruel and tragic trip.
